About the Role

Opportunity in a Boutique firm.

This firm seeks an experienced Tax Disputes Manager to join its team. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in meetings with both clients and HMRC.
  • Collect and evaluate financial data for compliance and reporting purposes.
  • Provide expert guidance on HMRC’s assessing powers, time limitations, and penalties legislation.
  • Calculate tax liabilities, interest, and penalties for various taxes, including income tax, capital gains tax, inheritance tax, and corporation tax, along with National Insurance Contributions (NICs).
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of investigations or disclosures for a dedicated portfolio of clients.
  • Facilitate voluntary disclosures to HMRC on behalf of clients.
  • Assist in negotiating settlement figures with HMRC, supported by senior staff.
  • Draft correspondence, disclosures, and reports addressed to HMRC.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Attend business development meetings with external intermediaries.
  • Build and maintain an internal network within the broader tax and advisory practices of the firm.
  • Act as a representative of the team and the firm, participating in marketing events, staying informed about the firm's full range of services, and proposing innovative solutions.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of the marketing strategy for the Tax Risk & Dispute Resolution (TR&DR) business.
  • Obtain Work in Progress (WIP) reports and manage the monthly billing process for clients.
  • Oversee the preparation of fee quotes and budgets for smaller client engagements.
  • Handle the onboarding of new clients, including Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures and engagement administration.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Former HMRC inspector with a minimum of two years of post-qualification experience; or
  • Partially or fully qualified CTA or ACA with at least three years of experience in tax dispute resolution within a corporate or private client tax team.
